The Gargoyle

Another of canongatebooks' giveaways , The Gargoyle is a beautifully covered new book. Once again, there is a readalong, this time on its website: http://www.the-gargoyle.co.uk. Can't wait to get stuck into this.

The Changeling readalong

Written by Robin Jenkings, The Changeling has been re-released and was sent to me by canongatebooks. I had just missed out on her giveaways before, so was pleased to get this. You always wonder about how a book will age and whether it will still be relevant in the future, and the answers would be well and unfortunately yes. I also took part in the readalong in the forum, the first time I had done this. http://www.bookcrossing.com/forum/6/5228023

I decided it was to add it to a bookbox, where it was picked out by katrinat.

NSS April

Sorry, thought I'd already posted this.
I received a lovely NSS parcel from my partner Vespa. A very generous package with lots of lovely books and more! Four Plays , The Popcorn Pirates, Chatterton (Abacus Books) and Where Angels Fear to Tread (Twentieth Century Classics) . 4 great books from my wishlist. Apologies for the delay in registering the books, but was already in S.A.

My partner was Pookledo and I sent her The Sea on Our Left: Couple's Ten Month Walk Around Britain's Coastline , which I got from www.greenmetropolis.com.

NSS

So far picked up Birds of a Feather (Maisie Dobbs Mysteries) and The Mummy Case (Amelia Peabody Murder Mystery) for my NSS partner.

I got my wires crossed and thought I could already open my package, but the real date is 2 days away! Very ashamed! I received Blood Meridian: Or, the Evening Redness in the West (Picador Books) from JudeK along with lots of stationary goodies - a notebook, pencil case, post-its, rubbers and chocolate. Thanks. (A note about the card, my Mum remembers staying in the YH there)

Bookcrossing in Edinburgh and Newcastle

Up north visiting friends and family, this involved a lot of Olympic watching, G+Ts, too much food and reading on long train and bus journeys.

Took quite a few books with me, including Greyfriars Bobby (Penguin Popular Classics), couldn't resist reading this in its hometown. A couple of books from Soffitta1's 2nd U.K. Bookbox (Asia Theme) : for matrimonial purposes , and Geisha . I visited the OBCZ at Always Sunday cafe, High St (Royal Mile), which was leaping because of the Festival, but managed to sneak in and grab a table and have a lovely bagel. Picked up The Spice Islands Voyage: in search of Wallace as it looked interesting.

Then headed down to York, just to stay overnight at the University. Had lots of time to work and read in a couple of their cafes. Forgot how cheap cafes on campus were, nice coffee, tea and cakes! Left three books, with two being caught before I got home to release them properly: Lady Oracle (diff. cover) and The Secret River . Still keeping fingers crossed for Buddha Da to be picked up.
